What a lovely city Barcelona is – and I can recommend the marathon which takes place in March each year. Roads are closed, loads of drinks stations, lovely downhill start between fountains, good loops so your supporter(s) can keep track of you, plenty of support from bystanders in a variety of languages and a great finish too. We travelled with Running Crazy who organised everything except flights and insurance – even the number and the goody bag. Very impressed and definitely to be recommended. Hotel good, food great, lots to see and do in the city itself. So you know when it is – keep the marathon in mind for another year.

TEIGN VALLEY RUNNING CLUB
To all the Sponsors of the 11th Teign Valley Toddle 2010
Re: Teign Valley Toddle Road Race Sponsorship
Very many thanks indeed for your kind sponsorship for the above race held on Sunday 3rd October 2010 and I’m sorry it has taken me so long to get around to thanking you.
We had lower than usual entries due in part to the very wet start to the day, but thanks to all our sponsors, all our marshals, cake bakers and tea servers, we have raised £642 from the race for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT). As a Club we have decided to top this up, so we will be sending a cheque to DAAT for £1000. A goodly sum we feel from a small Club running a small event.
Without your continuing support this would not be possible for such a worthy cause, so thank you once again for supporting us.
Kind regards,
Penny Clapham

Liz Baldwin and Penny Clapham decided to swap their running shoes for bike shoes and 2 wheels and took part in the 4th Cyclosportive Sunday 27th June. 104 kms across, down and up parts of Dartmoor, this was no easy ride, but it was beautiful if a trifle hot!
Liz finished in an excellent 5.55.11 earning herself a bronze medal. A bit further back, Penny finished in 6.41.18 - very pleased at knocking 27 minutes of last year's time.
Well done girls. Back to running now we presume.

Rosie Swale Pope is running 26 marathons in 26 days starting last week on Easter Monday. I went over to Sturminster Newton on Friday, Rosie's 5th marathon, to run with her alongside members of the Gillingham Joggers who were taking her on the route of the North Dorset Village Marathon. It was a great priviledge to meet someone who has run round the world on her own (took her 5 years) and to run with her and help her push her icebird home up the hills. I managed 9 miles, before time dictated that I had to turn back to Sturminster and thence back to Devon. Do look at her website, wwwrosies26marathonsin26days.co.uk She is running for 2 childrens hospices. Penny Clapham.

Hi Members, anyone else other than Penny do a nutty race over the holiday period? If so, then it would be good to see your results. Send results to Penny or Andy and they will get published. Whoopee.

Well, what a result at the Tavy 7. Nine ladies for the Club ran this event and all of them did really well. See their excellent times listed on the results page. Congratulations girls.

Taunton half marathon is on Sunday 11th April - an ideal finisher for those of you doing the 2010 London Marathon. Davey Jones has proposed a mini bus load of TVRC runners. No need to enter yet as entry forms not yet available. When they are, they will be put on our diary page. Just food for thought for the moment.

And thats probably spelt wrong! Well it was an event for me rather than a race from Brecon to Methyr Tydfil on the old roman road. They don't have hills over the border, they have mountains! And stones and water and loads of sheep. Also quite a bit of road running on this event with some fantastic views, lots of friendly and encouraging marshalls, cold showers but hot coffee at the end. All in all, it was 16 miles of fun - probably do it again next year!! Might not meet the sheep.

Well, on Sunday 28th June, 3 intrepid runners got on their bikes and completed the third Dartmoor Classic Cyclosportive 100K. Whew there were some great hills to go up and scary ones to ride down. Sally Ingledew, Tony & Penny Clapham all completed the event but the official results are not yet available. Suffice it to say that the two seniors allowed 8 hours and completed well within that time, and all legs still attached. Sally was even quicker. Congrats to all three.

Our annual picnic breakfast run round the reservoirs at Hennock is on the 20th June. We hope for lovely sunny weather as this is the strawberry picnic breakfast. Good run first to get an appetite.
Family BBQ at the Teign House Inn on the 26th June. Run first (of course) for those who would like to, leaving the pub car park at 6.30pm. BBQ for family and friends starts at 7pm but leave some for the runners please. If you wish to come to either of these events please advise Penny on pentoes@hotmail.com. Many thanks.

Here is the cake recipe as promised to lots of you. Essentially fat and sugar free, one decent slice equals 100kcals, and it is excellent fodder after your hard training run (or anytime really).
Sorry its all in old weights as I do these best.
Weigh out 8ozs raisins, 4ozs currants, 4ozs sultanans and 4ozs stoned dates. Make 1 pint of tea and pour over the fruit in a large bowl. Add half a tub of mixed peel. Stir and leave, preferably overnight.
When ready to finish cake, grease 2 x 1lb loaf tins and pre-heat oven to 150 deg. C. Add to fruit mix, 1 egg, and a handful of walnuts (optional). Stir in. Add 12ozs white or white/wholemeal flour, 1 teasp baking powder, 1 teasp mixed spice and 1 teasp ground ginger. Spices optional too. Stir well and fill both baking tins. Level off. Bake for one and a half hours; leave to cool in the tins. Eat one and wrap the other in tin foil and freeze it. Keeps for about 3 days, but once the family know its there, lasts about 1 day if you are lucky. The only fat is from the walnuts, and the sugar is from the fruit.
Happy cooking. We may have to create a recipe page.

It was an early start for the 2009 Bath half; Davy Jones picked us all up in a mini bus and we feasted our way to Bath on smoked salmon bagels and lucozade energy drinks. the race started late with about 15,000 runners. It was an unexpectedly hot day with many casualties along the way side - it was rumoured that about 150 people needed medical attention. Simon Lee was first TVRC man home and Nicola White, first lady - all times recorded on race results page.
Following our hard efforts we were treated to an italian feast at Jamie Oliver's restaurant and a well deserved beer! We then drank champagne on our way home in the mini bus, what a worthwhile day. Thank you so much Davy for organising us and looking after us so well.
Unfortunately Annie Pascoe wasn't well on the day and had to pull out, but has made up for this by running the Taunton half on 5th April.
